Edwin John Jr., 18

Edwin John Jr., an 18-year-old black man, was shot and killed Monday, Jan. 2, in the 800 block of East 53rd Street in South Park, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.

[Editor's note: Family and investigators said the victim's last name was Johns, however coroner's officials said they have identified him Edwin John Jr.]

The drive-by shooting occurred shortly before 3 p.m., officials said.

John Jr. was struck multiple times in the upper body and died at the scene. A 57-year-old man was shot in the shoulder, and an 11-year-old girl was shot in the foot. Both were taken to a hospital where they were listed in stable condition, authorities said.

Witnesses said the unknown suspect or suspects were in a gray sedan.
