Elroy Anderson Schenck, a 41-year-old black man, died July 5, three days after he was wounded in a car-to-car shooting on the 110 Freeway near Florence Avenue on the western edge of the Florence neighborhood, according to L.A. County coroner and Los Angeles Police Department records.

Schenck was driving north on the freeway in a white Pontiac Grand Am when a dark-colored four-door compact vehicle pulled up and someone in the car opened fire, LAPD officials said. The shooting was reported just before 12:30 p.m. July 2.

After being shot in the head, Schenck exited the freeway.  The accident closed the northbound 110 Freeway between Florence Avenue and Manchester Boulevard for several hours.
