A story for every victim

Enrique Simon Guzman-Rios, 33

Enrique Simon Guzman-Rios, a 34-year-old Latino, was shot and killed Tuesday, Nov. 8, at the corner of Fair Street and South Atlantic Boulevard in Commerce, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.

Witnesses said that Guzman-Rios was hanging out in the parking lot of Arrow Liquor, at 2177 South Atlantic Boulevard, when he got into an argument with another Latino around 6 p.m., said Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Sgt. Marcelo Quintero.

The other man pulled out a gun and shot Guzman-Rios in the upper torso from a few feet away, Quintero said.

Guzman-Rios ran into the liquor store, where he collapsed, Quintero said. He was pronounced dead at the scene at 6:18 p.m., according to coroner’s records.

Investigators believe Guzman-Rios was homeless at the time he died, because they found a bag of his belongings not far from where he was shot, Quintero said.

The shooter, described only as a Latino in dark clothing, ran from the scene and may have been accompanied by one or two other people, Quintero said. Witnesses were not sure whether they were with the shooter or just running from the incident.

Investigators hope surveillance camera footage will give them a better idea of what happened, he said.
