Eric Allen Jones, a 34-year-old black man, was found dead Saturday, Sept. 1, near West 89th Street and South Grand Avenue in Broadway-Manchester, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.

About 2 a.m., residents in the area heard what could have been gunshots, but no one called police, said Los Angeles police Det. Nathan Kouri.

At about 8 a.m., a person in the area spotted a green SUV with two people inside who appeared lifeless, Kouri said. Paramedics responded and discovered that Jones, along with Billy Blount, 35, had been shot.

The two men were pronounced dead at the scene at 8:15 a.m., according to coroner’s records.

It’s unknown if someone shot at the two men from the sidewalk or from a car. Neither Blount nor Jones were gang members. Detectives are seeking witnesses.

Part of my childhood died with Eric Jones. He probably wouldn't ever remember me but I met Eric in the 7th grade at Bret Hart Middle School and he introduced me to wrestling which then became a big part of my life. Eric introduced me to Stone Cold and he let me borrow my first ever wrestling tape, Wrestlemania 14. This might seem childish but he never knew how he impacted my life and I will always remember him. He was nice to me and always a smiling little kid. I had never forgot about Eric Jones from middle school. I hope his family knows that he touched people in ways unimaginable and I pray for his wife and my heartbreaks to think of his little girls that will not have him to watch them grow. He did nothing wrong but to be in LA on that Saturday/Sunday and he was just out there working. He was a mobil barber apparently and you can see on his social media that that is what he was doing out in LA. I hope someone steps up and can help find the culprit that just took an innocent life for no reason. A waste of life took Eric's life. Sorry, Eric Jones. I will always remember you. "And that's the bottom line 'cause stone comd said so!"
