A story for every victim

Ethel Porter, 87

Ethel Porter, an 87-year-old black woman, was stabbed to death Tuesday, Nov. 29, in the 900 block of West 41st Street in Vermont Square, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.

Officers arrived at a home about 2:15 p.m. and found Porter stabbed, officials said. She was taken to a hospital where she was later pronounced dead.

According to coroner’s records, Porter was assaulted with a broken broomstick on her collarbone, left upper arm, right leg and left thumb.

During the death investigation, detectives learned Porter's grandson may have been the person that stabbed her.

SWAT team officers arrived at the home as negotiators tried to talk the grandson into turning himself in, the LAPD said. He was believed to be holed up in a shed at the back of the property.

The grandson eventually surrendered that evening and was taken in to custody. The LAPD did not release any details about the alleged killer.

Anyone with information about the stabbing is asked to contact the Los Angeles Police Department at (877) LAPD-24-7 (877) 527-3247. Those wishing to remain anonymous can call Crime Stoppers at (800) 222-TIPS (800) 222-8477.
