A story for every victim

Evelyn Mosley, 90

Evelyn Oletha Mosley, a 90-year-old black woman, was found dead inside her burning home in the 3200 Block of North Lincoln Avenue in Altadena about 9:59 a.m. Thursday, May 8.

Mosley was discovered in her kitchen shortly after firefighters extinguished the fire, authorities said. Mosley's housekeeper, who works part-time, was later arrested on suspicion of murder. Investigators with the Los Angeles Sheriff's Department have not released her name.

Update: The housekeeper was released after extensive questioning by detectives, according to Deputy Denise Fuchs of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department. She said the incident is still being investigated as a homicide.

Updated Jan. 25, 2010: Four months after Mosley's slaying, sheriff's homicide investigators named Corey King, then-18, as a person of interest in her killing after King was arrested on suspicion of a quadruple homicide in Lancaster.

Hours after the killings of Sonya Durfield, a 43-year-old black woman, and her three daughters on Sep. 9, 2008, King called investigators and asked to meet with them. He was taken into custody and was booked on suspicion of murder the next day.

Lt. Liam Gallagher of the sheriff's homicide division said King was a friend of Durfield's son and also was friends with Mosley's grandson.
