A story for every victim

Fernando Gurrola, 20

Fernando Gurrola, a 20-year-old Latino, was fatally wounded Saturday, July 20, in the 300 block of West Elm Street in Compton, according to L.A. County coroner’s records.

Gurrola was driving in a car with another person about 10 p.m. when he was shot, said Det. Phil Guzman with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.

Investigators do not know whether the shots came from another car or from a gunman on the street, Guzman said. Gurrola was able to drive about half a mile before he got out of his car, which rolled into a curb.

Neighbors saw Gurrola and called 911, Guzman said.

Gurrola was taken to a hospital where he died at 11:28 p.m., according to coroner’s records.

Anyone with information about the crime can call the sheriff’s homicide bureau at (323) 890-5500. Those who wish to remain anonymous can call Crime Stoppers at (800) 222-8477.
