Frank Daniel Perez, 24

Frank Daniel Perez, a 24-year-old Latino, was shot and killed Sunday, July 15, in the 4100 block of Menlo Avenue in Vermont Square, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.

Shortly before 1:15 a.m., officers from the Los Angeles Police Department’s Southwest Division responded to a call of a shooting and found Perez on the ground between the curb and a parked vehicle, said Police Det. Dave Garrido.

Perez had been shot and was pronounced dead at the scene at 1:26 a.m., according to coroner’s records.

Investigators discovered that moments before the shooting, Perez was crossing out rival gang graffiti on the wall of a nearby school when he was shot, Garrido said.

Witnesses told police that a light-colored sedan fled the scene, police said.
