Gabriela Melara, 2-year-old Latina toddler, was shot in the head at 830 E. 82nd Street and died at 12:25 a.m. Thursday, March 29.
Police said Gabriela, her 15-month-old sister Asbel and their mother Gabriela Gonzalez, 24-year-old Latina, were shot by 29-year-old Fredy Melara. Melara, the girls' father and partner of Gonzalez, killed himself. A witness heard the couple yelling, Gonzalez saying, "Fredy no, no!"and then gunshots.
