Gelacio Ramirez Medina, 22

Gelacio Medina, a 22-year-old Latino, died Wednesday Aug. 1, hours after he was shot in the 1000 block of East 6th Street in Long Beach, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.

Officials found Medina in an alley on July 31 about 10:48 p.m., according to a Long Beach Police Department news release. He was taken to a hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries the following day.

During the investigation, detectives learned that Medina and several acquaintances were talking in the alley when a car pulled up and opened fire, striking Medina in the head and right cheek. No words were exchanged prior to the shooting.

There is no description of the shooter, although the incident is believed to be gang-related.
