A story for every victim

George Rafael Castillo, 37

George Rafael Castillo, a 37-year-old Latino, was shot and killed Thursday, Oct. 5, in the 1600 block of Pennsylvania Avenue in Boyle Heights, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.

Shortly after 1 a.m., Castillo was standing on a sidewalk talking to another person who pulled out a gun and shot him multiple times, said Los Angeles Police Det. Jose Ramirez.

A 31-year-old woman standing nearby was wounded in the leg, Ramirez said.

Castillo was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 1:44 a.m., according to coroner’s records.

Police are still trying to determine if another man was shot at that location.

The suspect may have fled on foot west on Pennsylvania Avenue, police said. It’s unknown what the two men were talking about and what prompted the shooting, Ramirez said.

Anyone with information is asked to call Ramirez at (323) 342-8964. Those who wish to remain anonymous can call Crime Stoppers at (800) 222-8477.
