Gerald Smith, 54
Gerald Smith, a 54-year-old black man, was shot and killed Tuesday, Dec. 20, near 63rd Street and Crenshaw Boulevard in Hyde Park, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.
Officials responded to a 911 call at 10:30 p.m., and Smith was transported to California Hospital Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead at 11:15 p.m., officials said. According to coroner’s records, Smith died from multiple gunshot wounds to his abdomen and legs.
The shooting occurred at a major thoroughfare -- with mostly apartment complexes and businesses nearby, said LAPD Criminal Gang Homicide Det. J. Ferreria, who is handling the case. Witnesses driving by heard gunshots and saw three black males approach Smith, he said.
Investigators said the shooting appeared to be gang-related, but added that Smith had no gang affiliation.
No other witnesses have come forward, Ferreria said, and no arrests have been made in connection with the shooting.
