Giovan Beals, 26

Giovan Beals, a 26-year-old black man, was shot and killed Saturday, Aug. 29, in the 5800 block of South 8th Avenue in Hyde Park, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.

About 12:25 p.m., Beals and another person were arguing in front of a home when the man pulled out a gun and shot Beals, LAPD Det. Dave Garrido said.

Beals was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 3:32 p.m., according to coroner’s records.

The gunman, who is described as a black male in his 20s wearing dark clothing, ran west and out of sight.
