Man convicted of killing sister in San Gabriel

A man was convicted Thursday of fatally shooting his sister in 2015, according to Los Angeles County district attorney’s office.

A jury deliberated one day before finding Johnny Goins, 30, guilty of first-degree murder in the killing of Tanaya Shanette Goins, 32. He was also found guilty of of two counts of shooting at an inhabited dwelling.

In the early morning of March 5, 2015, prosecutors said, Johnny Goins took a revolver to his sister’s San Gabriel apartment and shot at her several times through a window and door. Prosecutors said Johnny Goins went there because of an argument between his sister and his girlfriend.

Tanaya Goins was struck in the head and chest. She was pronounced dead at the scene, prosecutors said. Her 13-year-old son, was also struck by gunfire, but did not sustain life-threatening injuries.

During the trial, a witness testified that she saw Johnny Goins flee after the shooting. Later that day, he was arrested in Moreno Valley, prosecutors said.
