Gregorio Mejia-Murillo, 24 [Updated]

Gregorio Mejia-Murillo, a 24-year-old Latino, was fatally shot Friday, Jan. 21, in the 100 block of West 52nd Street in South Park, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.

Los Angeles police officers with the Newton Station responded to a report of shots fired about 9:30 p.m. and found Mejia-Murillo's body near 52nd and South Main streets, Sgt. Rick Arteaga and a coroner's official said.

According to coroner’s records, he was shot in the chest.

No other information was released.

The Times has contacted investigators to obtain more information about the case and will provide an update as soon as possible.

[Update Jan. 27: LAPD Newton Det. David Torres, who is handling the investigation, said there is no description of the shooter.

It's unknown if the shooting was gang-related, he said.
