Gregory Lynn Griffin, a 37-year-old black man, was fatally shot Tuesday, Dec. 1, at 20 West Shoreline Drive in Long Beach, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.

Shortly after 10 a.m., Griffin was found with a gunshot wound to the chest by a passerby near an Outback Steakhouse, according to coroner’s records.

Paramedics and police responded and pronounced Griffin dead at the scene at 10:24 a.m., according to coroner’s records.

According to a news release from the Long Beach Police Department, the motive for the slaying remains unknown and the suspect is outstanding.

Lord knows I miss my son. Gregory was the oldest of three. My son was murdered for no reason by a low down coward. Just simply sitting at a stop light minding his own business. Glad I keep my kids prayed up. Gregory had just left home to take his barber, his cousin and a friend home excited that he was hired with the MTA Transit System. My son was to report for training at 10:00 a.m. on March 10, 2008 and never made it because he was shot and killed at 12:10 in the morning on March 8, 2010. My son has a son, Mekhi whom he never had a chance to meet and it’s very hurtful when my grandson wishes his dad were here or picking him up to spend time with him. All I can say to my grandson and assure him that if his dad was here he would be picking him up and spending lots of time with him. I’m thankful for my grandson. He look and acts just like his dad.

I would like to take this time to thank the L.A.P.D. especially Detective Shafia and the Los Angeles District Attorneys’ Frank Tavelman, Andrew Kim and Garret as well as my nephew, Udell my son’s barber Darrell, and another witness I won’t say her name. I truly appreciate all of the above for seeing to it that his murderer will never get out for what he has done to me and my family. He won’t be able to take no one’s life again. Yes that’s right the first sentence pass down to him was LIFE WITHOUT PAROLE, and that was for the murder. I feel that justice was prevailed, even though it won’t bring my baby (Gregg) back.

Trust and believe I put all my trust and belief in JESUS from the time I got that disturbing phone call and got the victory I was seeking. Thank you Lord.
