Gregory Maurice Merritt, 29

Gregory Merritt, a 29-year-old Black man, was shot and killed Monday, Oct. 19, in the 1100 block of West Avenue H-14 in Lancaster, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.

About 2:35 p.m., deputies found Merritt on the ground in the area. He had gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead at the scene, according to a news release from the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.

Authorities said that detectives are looking for witnesses and evidence. The department did not provide additional information about what led to the shooting.
