Guillermo Huitron, 22

Guillermo Huitron, a 22-year-old Latino, died Saturday, June 5, less than an hour after he was shot in the 1200 block of West D Street in Wilmington, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.

Huitron was at a party in the backyard about 11:50 a.m. Friday when someone pulled out a gun and fired, hitting Huitron, said Ed Winter, spokesman for the coroner's office.

Authorities were called and 12 minutes later, Huitron was pronounced dead at the scene, according to coroner's records.

It appears Huitron was an innocent bystander, Winter said.

By the way, we are talking about LA County, not NYC. Keep the subject germane.

And as any criminologist can tell you, it's very difficult to compare crime rates between Europe and the US because there are few similarities. That's another interesting thing we learned in CJ101 and geography 101. Becareful how you compare statistics. One thing thats interesting is how the UK reports its crime rate differently as compared to the US. Some statistics show that parts of the UK are more violent than many places in the US.

And of course the homicide rate as measured by firearms being the instrument for murder is higher than in Europe. But we get to own weapons unlike the Europeans because we have far more freedoms than they do. A trade off when measured against national and social priorities

But there is one thing for sure; nowhere in Los Angeles is there a "no go" zone where the police refuse to go.
