Gun recovered at scene of police killing was a replica
The gun recovered at the scene where an LAPD police officer shot and killed a 26-year-old man was a replica, according to a news release from the police department. A replica gun is a firearm that can't shoot but is otherwise designed to look like a real gun.
The Los Angeles Police Department has identified Quincy Walunga, a Police Officer II, as the officer who fired the shot that killed Andrew George Valadez.
Valadez was reported by 911 callers to be waving a gun and threatening people on a street in Sylmar on April 22. Valadez was identified by the coroner's office as a 26-year-old white man.
