Henry Lee Bayardo, 29

Henry Lee Bayardo, a 29-year-old black man, was fatally shot Friday, Jan. 2, on a Metro Blue Line train platform in the 1900 block of South Acacia Court in Compton, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.

Authorities said Bayardo and another man got into a brawl about 8:42 a.m. on an exit ramp at the Artesia station, near the intersection of Artesia Boulevard and Alameda Street, and the man pulled out a handgun and shot Bayardo.

The gunman ran, and Bayardo chased him. The man turned around and fired several more shots.

An armed Metro security guard saw the shooting and fired a round at the gunman as he ran away. Authorities don’t know if the gunman was hurt during the shooting.

Coroner’s records show that Bayardo was pronounced dead at 9:15 a.m. at a hospital.

The shooting caused Metro to suspend Blue Line service at the Artesia station, and the agency requested bus shuttles for passengers. Authorities said the gunman was last seen running north along the rail tracks.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Sheriff’s Department Homicide Bureau at (323) 890-5500. Those who wish to remain anonymous can call Crime Stoppers at (800) 222-8477.
