Hernan Rubalcaba, 35

Hernan Rubalcaba, a 35-year-old Latino, was shot and killed by police Friday, June 1, in the 2500 block of Houston Street in Boyle Heights, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.

Officers received reports at 5:50 a.m. of gunshots , LAPD spokeswoman Rosario Herrera said.

Officers heard more shots when they arrived at the scene and went to the back of a house, where they encountered Rubalcaba.

"Police saw a man with a gun, and that's when an officer-involved shooting occurred," Herrera said.

Rubalcaba died at the scene, she said. Coroner’s records show he died from several gunshot wounds to his body. No other injuries were reported.

Other media outlets reported that the man was carrying a rifle, but Herrera could not confirm that.
