Howard Lee Burley Jr., 32

Howard Lee Burley Jr. a 32-year-old black man, was shot and killed Sunday, Sept. 22, in the 2800 block of West Alondra Boulevard in Compton, according to L.A. County coroner’s records.

Burley and another man drove to Nate’s Liquor store in a red GMC Yukon about 12:46 a.m., said Lt. John Corina with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.

The other man, who was a passenger in the vehicle, went into the store, Corina said. 

As the man walked back up to the passenger side of the SUV, a gunman walked up to the driver’s side where Burley was sitting and began shooting, Corina said.

The shooter ran across the parking lot and into a dark-colored sedan and fled, Corina said.

Burley was pronounced dead at the scene at 1:02 a.m., coroner’s spokesman Ed Winter said.
