A story for every victim

Hugo Castillo, 28

Hugo Castillo (2016-07-21)

Hugo Castillo, a 28-year-old Latino, was stabbed to death Thursday, July 21, at Echo Park near Lemoyne Street and Park Avenue, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.

About 10:35 p.m., Castillo and a few friends were hanging out near the bathrooms of the park when one of the friends went inside, said Los Angeles Police Det. Ray Martinez. A man then emerged from a stall and stabbed Castillo.

Police believe the attacker may have overheard the group talking and mistakenly thought that the men were making fun of him, Martinez said.

After the stabbing, the assailant ran northbound on Lemoyne.

Castillo was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 11:25 p.m., according to coroner’s records.

The suspect is believed to be Latino, with light skin and tattoos on both arms. He is between the ages of 29 and 39 and has been described 5 feet 9 or 10, with a medium build. His head is shaved or bald, police said, and he may have been homeless.
