Humberto Soto, 21

Humberto Soto, a 21-year-old Latino, died Thursday, July 23, after he was shot near Naomi Avenue and East 22nd Street in Central-Alameda, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.

About 11:30 p.m. on July 22, Soto and a friend were walking back from a taco stand when they stopped at East 22nd Street and Naomi Avenue, LAPD Det. Richard Arciniega said. The two were trying to decide whose house to go to with their food, when more than one person walked out of an alley and shouted at the men.

Soto turned to look at the source of the noise and a gunman opened fire. The friend ran away and notified Soto's family of the shooting.

Soto was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead on July 23 at 12:24 a.m.
