Irvine Charles Barner Jr., a 25-year-old black man, was shot and killed Saturday, July 26, in the 7900 block of South Figueroa Street in Vermont Knolls, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.

About 4:30 p.m., Barner was standing in front of a home when at least two black men standing on the other side of the street walked to the middle of the road and began to shoot, said LAPD Det. Sal LaBarbera.

The men left in a compact or mid-sized gold vehicle driven by a third person, LaBarbera said.

The vehicle went west on West 79th Street. Barner was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead at 5:01 p.m., said Ed Winter, a coroner’s spokesman.
