A story for every victim

Isaac Alexis Parra, 17

Isaac Parra, a 17-year-old Latino, was shot and killed Tuesday, March 31, in the 2200 block of West Merced Avenue in West Covina, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.

Parra and Jason Guijarro, a 19-year-old Latino, were both shot to death at about 10:30 p.m. while in a van at an intersection, officials said.

Authorities said the motive for the shooting "stemmed from a dispute between an ex-boyfriend and ex-girlfriend."

Soon after the shooting, Gerardo Fonseca Jr., a 22-year-old Latino from Arcadia, and Melissa Ann Goree, a 20-year-old woman from Baldwin Park, were arrested in connection with the killings.

Juan Martin Anda, a 24-year-old Latino from Baldwin Park, was apprehended by West Covina Police about a month later.

On Feb. 18, 2011, a jury convicted Fonseca and Anda of two counts of first-degree murder and one count of conspiracy to commit murder. The Los Angeles County district attorney’s office said they opted not to seek the death penalty for the two men. The defendants face lifetime imprisonment without parole.

Additionally, the jury acquitted Fonseca and Anda of two counts of attempted murder and one count of making a criminal threat. Goree was also acquitted of all charges.
