A story for every victim

Israel Ramirez-Perez, 22

Israel Ramirez-Perez, a 22-year-old Latino, died Tuesday, March 8, after he was stabbed in the 9100 block of Huntington Drive in San Gabriel, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.

Family members called the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department at 10:43 p.m. after they found Ramirez-Perez lying in the driveway of their apartment complex with a stab wound in his upper torso, Sgt. Guillermo Morales said.

Ramirez-Perez was pronounced dead at the scene at 11 p.m., according to coroner’s records.

Neighbors reported hearing an altercation outside before Ramirez-Perez was stabbed, Lt. Joe Mendoza said, but investigators don’t have any suspect information.

“Someone came to the family and said, ‘He's lying in the driveway,’ ” Mendoza said. “When his mom and family came out, he was unresponsive.”

Investigators are still trying to determine a motive for the attack, Morales said. “He had just been outside his home, enjoying life,” he said. “And by all accounts, he was a great guy.”

Anyone with information is asked to call the sheriff’s Homicide Bureau at (323) 890-5500. Those wishing to remain anonymous should call Crime Stoppers at (800) 222-8477.
