Benavidez, of Long Beach, was standing on the sidewalk at 12:34 a.m., when someone walked up and shot him, said Ed Winter, a spokesman for the coroner's office. Benavidez was taken to a hospital, where he died at 1:08 a.m.

Jacob Benavidez, 15
Jacob Benavidez, a 15-year-old Latino, was shot several times in the 1000 block of East 16th Street in Long Beach and died on Tuesday, Aug. 18, according to Los Angeles County coroner's officials.
