A story for every victim

Jacob Howard, 72

Jacob Howard, a 72-year-old Native American man, was fatally stabbed, Monday, Sept. 19, in the 1400 block of 3rd Street in Long Beach, according to the Los Angeles County coroner’s office.

About 2 a.m., Long Beach police were called to a residence where a man had been stabbed, according to a news release. Officers found Howard suffering from a stab wound to the chest. He was taken to a local hospital, the release said, but he died at 2:49 a.m., according to coroner's records.

Detectives arrested Howard's roommate, 52-year-old William Wilson, on suspicion of murder. On Sept. 22, Wilson was charged with one count of murder, according to prosecutors.

The criminal complaint also stated Wilson was previously convicted of grand theft auto in 2003 and unlawful driving of a vehicle in 2003 and 2004.

Wilson is scheduled to return to court Nov. 9.

If convicted as charged, Wilson faces a maximum sentence of 26 years to life in prison.
