A story for every victim

James Anthony Brown, 31

James Anthony Brown, a 31-year-old black man, was fatally shot Monday, May 29, in the 13700 block of South Willowbrook Avenue in the Willowbrook area of South Los Angeles, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.

Brown, a Compton resident, was standing outside in a residential area with a few other people around 7:30 p.m. when he got into an argument with another man, Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Lt. Rodney Moore said.

The man pulled a gun and began shooting, striking Brown and one of his companions, Moore said.

Brown was pronounced dead at the scene at 7:41 p.m. The other shooting victim, a Latino from Compton, was taken to a hospital and is expected to survive, Moore said.

Percy Roberto Sisniega, a 38-year-old Latino from Lynwood, was arrested later that day, Moore said, based on witness reports.

Sisniega was charged with murder and attempted murder on May 31. He was arraigned on June 1 and pleaded not guilty. Bail was set at $5 million, according to Los Angeles County district attorney’s office spokesman Sarah Ardalani.

He is scheduled to return to court June 30.

Investigators are still trying to determine what prompted the argument and subsequent shooting, Moore said.
