James Lamont Taylor, 36

James Lamont Taylor, a 36-year-old black man, was shot and killed Tuesday, June 5, in the 800 block of East 84th Street in Florence, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.

Taylor was walking west on East 84th Street shortly after 8:30 a.m., when a person with a gun chased him and shot him multiple times, Los Angeles Police Det. Chris Barling said.

The gunman then got into a gray sedan that fled east on East 84th Street and north on Wadsworth Avenue, Barling said.

Taylor collapsed in the driveway of a residence, according to coroner’s records, and was pronounced dead at the scene at 8:48 a.m.

Detectives are investigating a motive in the shooting, Barling said.
