James Morris Magee, 23

James Magee, a 23-year-old Black man, was shot and killed Thursday, Oct. 1, in the 900 block of Obispo Avenue in Long Beach, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.

At 12:30 a.m., Long Beach police officers responded to a call of a shooting at a duplex in the area, according to a news release from the department. 

Officers found Magee in the common area of the complex with gunshot wounds. Magee was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 1:53 a.m., according to coroner’s records.

Police believe that Magee was standing near the complex when a person walked up and fired at him. The gunman may have left in a sedan.

Detectives are trying to determine a motive.
