James Maurice Carter, 31

James Maurice Carter, a 31-year-old black man, was shot and killed Wednesday, Sept. 4, in the 8900 block of South Harvard Boulevard in the Gramercy Park neighborhood of South Los Angeles, according to Los Angeles County medical examiner-coroner’s records.

At about 1:15 p.m., Carter and another person were driving south on South Harvard Boulevard when they pulled over, said Los Angeles Police Det. David Dilkes.

At that time, shots were fired into the vehicle, striking Carter. Police believed the shots were fired from another vehicle, but they did not have a vehicle description.

Carter was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 2:11 p.m., according to coroner’s records.

The other person inside the vehicle was uninjured.
