Sharilit Monique Matthews, a 41-year-old black woman, was found dead Friday, Feb. 10, in the 17800 block of Sherman Way in Reseda, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.

[Editor's note: An earlier version of this post, based on information from the coroner's office, identified the victim as Jane Doe #14.

Officers responded to a call regarding a missing adult Feb. 10., according to an LAPD news release.

Matthews' friends and family had not heard from her in almost a week, officials said.

When authorities arrived at her home, they found Matthews in her bed dead. It appeared she had been dead for several days, police said.

According to preliminary coroner's records, Matthews had an incised wound to the neck.

A cause of death has since been deferred pending additional lab tests, the coroner's office said. Results will not be available for at least six to eight weeks.

Authorities did not release any other information about the case.

[Update Jan. 24, 2013: Coroner's officials later determined that Matthews died from a sharp instrument wound to the neck, and her death was ruled a homicide.]

Anyone with details about Matthews' death is asked to contact West Valley homicide detectives at (818) 374-7720. Those wishing to remain anonymous can call Crime Stoppers at (800) 222-8477.
