Jasper Ray Dukes, 43

Jasper Dukes, a 43-year-old black man, was fatally shot Thursday, July 5, in the 1300 block of Temple Avenue in Long Beach, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.

Police received reports of gunshots about 10:40 a.m. When officers arrived, they discovered a man with multiple gunshot wounds to the upper body inside a car parked at the curb, according to a department news release. Paramedics pronounced the man dead at the scene.

The man was later identified as Jasper Dukes, a resident of Las Vegas.

Investigators were trying to determine whether the shooting was gang-related, said Lisa Massacani, a spokeswoman for the Long Beach Police Department.

"Detectives are withholding information due to the investigation," she said. "It's still really fresh."
