Jesse Donato Delgadillo, a 21-year-old Latino, was fatally shot Sunday, April 28, in the 200 block of East Artesia Boulevard in Long Beach, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.

Long Beach police fatally shot Delgadillo early Sunday after he brandished a handgun during a confrontation, authorities said.

The incident occurred about 12:20 a.m. when officers were dispatched to a neighborhood near the intersection of Artesia Boulevard and Butler Avenue after receiving reports of a man with a gun, police said.

After an officer spotted the suspect, he took off running, police said. At some point during the pursuit, the suspect produced a handgun, and police shot him in the upper body, authorities said.

The suspect was taken to a local hospital, where he died from his injuries, police said.

As with all officer-involved shootings, the Los Angeles County district attorney’s office will conduct an independent investigation of the incident.
