Jesus Orosco, a 31-year-old Latino, died Sunday, Sept. 18, hours after he was shot in the 9900 block of Anzac Street in Watts, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.

Police believe Luis Padilla, an 18-year-old Latino, shot Orosco during a party at the victim's home Sept. 17 about 11:25 p.m.

According to an LAPD statement, Orosco tried to intervene in a dispute between Padilla and another guest when Padilla pulled out a gun and shot Orosco.

After the shooting, paramedics were called, and the victim was taken to a hospital, where he later died from his injuries. Coroner's records show Orosco died from a single gunshot wound to the chest.

Officers found Padilla at the Jordan Downs housing project, located near the victim’s home, and arrested him on suspicion of murder Sunday morning.

Police believe the motive for the killing was gang-related.

Padilla is being held in lieu of $2-million bail at the North County Correctional Facility in Castaic. His next court appearance is scheduled for Oct. 4 at the Compton Superior Court.
