A story for every victim

Jildardo Mariano, 29

Jildardo Mariano, a 29-year-old Latino, died Tuesday, Aug. 30, four days after he was shot on the 300 block of East 35th Street in Historic South-Central, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.

Mariano was standing in a front yard on Aug. 26 about 8 p.m. when a car drove by.  The occupants opened the door and shot at the victim, said Ed Winter, spokesman for the coroner's office.

Paramedics were called and Jildardo was taken to a hospital, where he remained until his death on Aug. 30 at 3 p.m. Coroner's records show he was shot several times.

After the shooting, responding units found the assailants and took them into custody, Winter said. LAPD Criminal Gang and Homicide Det. G Barboza, who is handling the case, said two Latinos were arrested and initially charged with attempted murder. But because Mariano died several days later, the charges were changed to murder, Barboza said.

Due to the ongoing investigation, officials are unable to provide the names of the alleged shooters, Barboza said.

Anyone with additional information about the fatal shooting is asked to contact Det. Barboza at (323) 846-6566. Those wishing to remain anonymous can call Crime Stoppers at (800) 222-8477.
