A story for every victim

Jitrujee Buatet, 44

Jitrujee Buatet, a 44-year-old Asian woman, was fatally shot Friday, Jan. 27, in the 1600 block of La Brea Avenue in Hollywood, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.

The shooting appears to have resulted from an argument on the patio of an eatery, police sources said.

A man at the restaurant allegedly pulled out a gun and pointed it at Buatet, who tried to grab the weapon. During the struggle Buatet was shot once. She was pronounced dead at a local hospital.

A man was also shot twice. He is being treated at a local hospital.

Initially, it was reported that both of the victims were shot by two gunmen. Officials stressed that police are still trying to sort out what exactly happened.

It was not clear if the man and Buatet knew each other, said Los Angeles Police Department spokeswoman Norma Eisenman.

It was one of half a dozen shootings in the city that night, including three in South Los Angeles. There was also a gang-related shooting that left one person dead and three others wounded outside the Mayan nightclub downtown early Saturday morning.

Anyone with information about the killing or the identity of the shooter is asked to contact the LAPD at (877) 527-3247. Those wishing to remain anonymous can call Crime Stoppers at (800) 222-8477.
