John Carldarius Johnson Jr., 25

John Carldarius Johnson Jr., a 25-year-old black man, died Wednesday, Nov. 20, after he was shot in the 9800 block of South Van Ness Avenue in Gramercy Park, according to Los Angeles County medical examiner-coroner’s records.

On Tuesday, Nov. 19, shortly before midnight, Johnson was driving a black Kia with another person north on South Van Ness, said Los Angeles Police Det. John Flores.

A car pulled up beside the Kia and a person inside began shooting at Johnson, Flores said.

The Kia collided with a parked car. The other person in the car, who was not injured, got out and flagged down a motorist for help.

Johnson was pronounced dead at the scene at 12:02 a.m. on Nov. 20, according to coroner’s records.
