John Christopher Footman, a 45-year-old black male, died from head injuries Wednesday, July 15, after he was assaulted at the corner of Olympic Boulevard and 9th Street in Santa Monica, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.
Santa Monica police received a call about a possible assault early in the morning of July 14, according to a department news release. Officers found Footman lying on the ground, unconscious and bleeding from head wounds.
Footman was taken to UCLA Medical Center in Westwood, where a CT scan revealed he had facial fractures and brain hemorrhages, according to coroner’s records. He was pronounced dead the following day in the hospital's intensive care unit at 3:10 p.m.
Coroner’s records listed Footman as a transient. He lived around Santa Monica, according to the news release.
