John Daniel Pollerana, 38
John Daniel Pollerana, a 38-year-old Latino, died Friday, June 3, after he was shot in the 1600 block of Del Mar Avenue in South San Gabriel, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.
About 11:45 p.m. the previous night, Pollerana and two friends were standing in the parking lot of the Del Mar Motel when they got into an argument with four men who were also staying at the motel, said Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Lt. Joe Mendoza.
“At least one of the suspects fired on the three victims,” Mendoza said.
The gunfire struck Pollerana in the torso, Mendoza said. He was taken to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced dead at 1:31 a.m. on June 3.
Bullets grazed the arm of one of Pollerana’s friends, a 28-year-old Latino, and the other, a 26-year-old Latino, was uninjured, Mendoza said.
After the shooting, the four men fled; three on foot and one in a white four-door sedan, Mendoza said.
A few blocks away, Juan Luis Colin, a 31-year-old Latino, was arrested on suspicion of murder, Mendoza said.
On Friday, June 10, Colin was charged with murder, two counts of attempted murder and one count of possession of a firearm by a felon. He is scheduled to be arraigned June 28 in the Alhambra Municipal Courthouse and is being held on $4.33 million bail.
Investigators are trying to identify the other three men, Mendoza said. No gun was recovered. Investigators believe the shooting was gang-related.
