John David Lee
John Doe #113, a white male, was found dead Saturday, Aug. 13, in the 20400 block of Lassen Street in Chatsworth, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.
Homicide detectives were conducting an investigation on the evening on Aug. 12 when they found the bodies of John Doe #113 and Jane Doe #45. As of Wednesday, coroner's officials were still trying to determine their identities.
Both bodies were found in a state of decomposition. Preliminary coroner’s records show the victims may have each suffered several gunshot wounds.
Police suspect Brent D. Zubek, a 43-year-old white man, of killing John and Jane Doe.
Zubek's family spoke out to local media, begging him to turn himself in.
"We really wish you would turn yourself in," his mother, Carole Zubek, told KTLA. "I fear that if the police find you before you turn yourself in, things are going to be really bad."
Police have released few details about the investigation, including when the victims were killed or why Zubek was named as a suspect. They did say Zubek once lived in the house but did not say whether the victims lived there.
Police said undercover officers spotted Zubek around noon Sunday. An undercover unit posted in the 9400 block of Sepulveda Boulevard had been watching a Ford F-150 truck connected with Zubek when the suspect got inside and drove off.
The officers tailed the truck at normal speeds without using the siren. They decided not to pull Zubek over because he is considered armed and dangerous and the officers were waiting for back-up units.
Zubek has had trouble with the law before and was previously convicted for several bank robberies in the Los Angeles area.
Anyone with information on Zubek is asked to call LAPD's Devonshire Division homicide detectives at (818) 832-0609. Those wishing to remain anonymous can call Crime Stoppers at (800) 222-8477.
