Alberto Acosta Jr., 18

Alberto Acosta Jr., an 18-year-old Latino, was shot and killed by police Saturday, Sept. 24, in the 6700 block of Darby Avenue in Reseda, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.

[For the record: An earlier version of this post, based on preliminary information from the coroner's office, listed the victim as John Doe #148.]

LAPD Officer Cleon Joseph said police responded to a report of shots fired in the 6600 block of Etiwanda Avenue about 4:40 p.m. and found two critically injured victims in a vehicle. The victims were taken to a local hospital.

Police set up a perimeter and found the gunman, who was later identified as Alberto Acosta Jr. The suspect was fatally shot during the confrontation. Joseph could not say whether Acosta fired on officers.
