John Joseph Sullivan, 53

John Joseph Sullivan, a 53-year-old white man, was found dead Saturday, Feb. 4, after being shot in the 1500 block of West Gage Street in Harvard Park, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.

[Editor's note: An earlier version of this post, based on information from the coroner's office, identified the victim as John Doe #20.]

Sullivan’s body was discovered in a recycling bin by a passerby near Halldale and 67th streets about 9:20 a.m., according to an LAPD news release.

Coroner's records show Sullivan died from several gunshot wounds to his body.

After the finding, investigators went to the victim's house, located in the 1500 block of West Gage Street. While there they learned that Sullivan's roommate, D'Andre Michael Williams, killed the victim during a fight at the residence.

Williams, a 29-year-old black man, was arrested and charged with one count of murder, officials said. He is being held in lieu of $1-million bail at the inmate reception center in downtown.
