A story for every victim

Manuel Gonzalo Lopez, 43

John Doe #93, a white man of undetermined age, was found dead Tuesday, April 19, on 233rd Street East, not far from Highway 18 in Llano, a town 21 miles east of Palmdale, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.

The area where the body was found is rural, said Los Angeles County Sheriff's Lt. Joe Mendoza. "It's just like a desert area, sprinkled with a house here and there," he said, "and 233rd Street is actually a dirt road."

Recreational shooters called the Sheriff's Department after they were driving in the area and noticed the body by the side of the road, Mendoza said.

The man was officially pronounced dead at 12:29 p.m. with a gunshot wound to the head, according to coroner's records.

The badly decomposed body was wearing regular clothing but carrying no identification, Mendoza said. "We think he'd been deceased for quite a number of days, at least five days," he said. "We're combing through our missing persons lists, trying to find out who this might be."

Anyone with information is asked to call the Sheriff's Department Homicide Bureau at (323) 890-5500. Those wishing to remain anonymous should call Crime Stoppers at (800) 222-8477.
