Jonathan Pinto, a 28-year-old Latino, was fatally shot Saturday, Oct. 23, in the 2700 block of Orchard Place in South Gate, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.
Sheriff's homicide Det. Philip Guzman, who is handling the investigation, said Pinto and a friend were on the street about 8:43 p.m. when they were shot.
People in the area heard the gunfire and called 911, Guzman said. Authorities arrived and Pinto was pronounced dead at the scene. According to coroner’s records, he sustained a gunshot wound to the head and torso. The second victim was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, Guzman said.
Investigators believe the shooting was gang-related. No arrests have been made in connection with the case.
