Jose Saul Hernandez, 24

Jose Hernandez, a 24-year-old Latino, was shot and killed Tuesday, March 30, in the 200 block of Rampart Boulevard in Westlake, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.

Hernandez was standing on a sidewalk drinking with friends about 9 p.m., according to an LAPD news release. An hour later his friends went home, leaving Hernandez alone. Shortly after they left, police officials said someone walked up to Hernandez, pulled out a handgun and shot him.

Hernandez ran to his apartment and collapsed in front of relatives. Paramedics took Hernandez to a hospital where he died in surgery at 9:15 p.m., according to coroner's records.

Witnesses who heard the gunfire told detectives they saw the two assailants running south from the scene of the crime.
