Jose Hignacio Peralta, 23

Jose Hignacio Peralta, a 23-year-old Latino, was shot and killed Wednesday, March 15, in the 10500 block of Grandee Avenue in Watts, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.

About 12:15 a.m., Peralta was walking with his girlfriend when a car almost struck the woman, said Los Angeles Police Det. Dave Garrido.

The driver of a black sedan attempted to apologize and got into an argument with Peralta, Garrido said.

The driver left, then returned accompanied by a white sedan, Garrido said. A gunman exited the white car and opened fire on Peralta, who was pronounced dead at the scene at 12:35 a.m., according to coroner’s records. 

The woman was not injured. The shooter ran away southbound on Grandee Avenue.
