Jose Enrique Lopez, a 30-year-old Latino, was shot and killed Tuesday, May 24, in the 4600 block of East Rosecrans Avenue in East Compton, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.

Shortly before 2:30 p.m., Lopez was walking alone along East Rosecrans Avenue when he was shot, said Lt. John Corina with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.

Lopez was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 11:20 p.m., according to coroner’s records.

Witnessed later told authorities that they heard gunshots and saw Lopez run across the street and collapse on the sidewalk.

Detectives are still working on a description of the gunman and are unsure about the motive, Corina said.

Lopez’s family has set up a fundraising page to help with burial expenses.
